Ok, I’m going to start off today’s post in a positive light and not dwell on the negatives that have caused me to miss almost two weeks’ worth of posting. Even though 2014 started off pretty rocky, we have managed to turn it around and make it awesome – and THAT’S what’s important.
The best news? Cliff and I managed to LOSE weight through the holidays! Not just stay stagnant but actually lost! I’m down about six pounds since Thanksgiving, which isn’t as much as normal but I still consider it a major accomplishment. I haven’t been able to start my 5K training yet due to a “Polar Vortex” that has frozen most of the country – but I plan to get started next week.
The next best news? I have an office again! We have a spare room upstairs that has served as an office/craft room on and off for the past seven years. I was determined for this semester to go more smoothly than the last. In order for that to happen I knew that I would have to set up a study space and force myself to use it instead of doing homework sitting in front of the TV. I’ve used it the past two nights and I’m happy to announce that I’ve already completed 75% of my homework for the week! Normally I would just cram it all on Sunday and spend the entire week dreading the weekend. Doesn’t sound like much fun, does it? Now I have a nice, quiet place to immerse myself in my studies and the difference has been like night and day.
Still more good news (trust me, I deserve it after all the crap 2014 threw at me right out of the gate) is that Cliff and I were finally able to order new furniture! We bought a used living room set on Craig’s List a few years ago, and while it served its purpose at the time, it’s far past time to replace it. We bought the furniture with the intention to lose the weight we had gained back and didn’t want to spend a ton on furniture that we would just break in a few years. Well, that’s not exactly how it happened. We definitely broke the furniture, but we never lost the weight. Now that we’ve dropped a little over 100 pounds in six months, it was time to reward ourselves properly. We got two power recliners with USB ports and a reclining couch. The best part? It’s all black leather! This means my days of vacuuming the furniture are over!!! The chairs will be here Saturday, but the couch won’t be delivered until the 25th. I CANNOT wait!
There have been lots of other little awesome things that have happened since about the 3rd day of the year – but this is supposed to be a weight loss blog, so it’s time to focus.
In order to fully get back on track after the holidays (both health and money wise) Cliff and I decided to do our first 30 day challenge.
We have both agreed to not eat out for THIRTY WHOLE DAYS. This also means no Starbucks or Heine Brothers in the mornings. Nothing from a restaurant at all. I, honestly, don’t know that I’ve ever gone that long without eating at a restaurant. At first, the task seemed pretty daunting, but now I’m really psyched about it. We started on Sunday, so we’re coming up on our first weekend of eating all our meals at home. The challenge has prompted me to turn this weekend into an epic shopping trip followed by a full day of prepping stuff for meals for the week. I even joined the coffee club at work so that I can still get my fix with spending $5 a day on Caramel Macchiatos!
I plan on getting back on track with my blog posting, but I think I might need to be a bit more realistic with my goals. Posting every single day just isn’t the cards for me right now. With work, school, the gym, and home life I just don’t have the time. However, I have a new goal of posting at least three times a week and to post a picture with every weigh in. I definitely think that’s doable for now and perhaps one day I’ll have more time to devote to this blog.
I’m slowly, but surely, learning that everything doesn’t have to be exactly the way I planned in order for it to be a good thing. One of the goals that I’ve made for myself this year is to be more flexible. I don’t cut myself very much slack and it’s really starting to do a number on my anxiety levels. Now I’m trying to just relax and go with the flow instead of making ridiculous itineraries that I have no hope of keeping. I have a tendency to spread myself too thin and before I know it I feel like a complete failure when I can’t keep up with my own life. This is definitely something that I need to work on if I want to continue to lose weight. I refuse to give up because I’m “too busy” to be healthy. I know I’ve had a bit of a setback, but I’m back on track and ready to get the rest of this weight off!
